Convert a Helac Part Number to an IC Series Actuator

How Do I Find an IC Actuator Equivalent to Helac?

It’s easy to convert your Helac rotary actuator into an IC Series model. In this example, we will be converting a Helac L20 actuator code into the IC Series code. You can also use our Helac lookup tool to find the correct match.

1. Select the correct series

First, match your Helac series to an IC Series model.

2. Define max torque

Next, determine your required max torque. Helac codes feature torque output in in-lbs. To get the correct number, make sure you convert it to Nm for the IC Series. For this example, “016” in the IC Series code represents 1,600 Nm.

3. Choose rotation

For Helac part numbers, rotation is shown in positions 5 and 6. The first number identifies the standard rotation. The second number (if present) identifies a special, reduced rotation. For example, 180°/120° indicates a 120° actuator inside a 180° sized housing.

For the IC Series, only standard rotation is included on the part number. If you need a special rotation, please tell your engineer this when providing a quote.

4. Configure drive shaft

For Helac part numbers, shaft configuration is shown in position 7. The two options for Helac include cantilever (indicated by S1) or straddle (indicated by S2).

The IC Series refers to cantilever as front flange (indicated by Q) and straddle as double flange (indicated as S).

5. Determine mounting

For Helac part numbers, the mounting is shown in position 4. The standard mounting options include front flange, rear flange, and foot.

6. Add counterbalance valves if needed

All actuator models can be equipped with a counterbalance valve or no counterbalance valve. For Helac models, this is indicated in position 8.

7. Add Seals

Next, determine which seals you need. For Helac, this is the last position in the part number.

8. Choose measurement system

Lastly, determine if you’re using English, metric, or a special custom design. For Helac part numbers, this letter can be found in the 3rd position. If you choose a special custom design (“S” under the Helac Code), we will need a drawing.
