Servo Valves for Large Molding Presses

Large molding presses use a lot of hydraulic power every single cycle. The valve you choose is important, as it directly impacts press speed, control stability, and operating cost. Domin offers several models for high flow and high force requirements, including large molding presses. This includes flow rates up to 153 gpm (580 lpm) with response time under 6.5 ms (or <7 ms for flow rate up to 66 gpm (250 lpm)).

When presses scale in size, hydraulic systems need to deliver more flow at similarly high pressures, while still maintaining precise control for clamp force, platen motion, and switchover. Traditional high-flow valves can be bulky, slow, and unstable, which limits press usage at larger scales. Discover how servo valves control clamp force, plate motion, and switchover in compression molding.

For large molding presses with flow requirements up to 153 gpm (580 lpm), the Domin S Series provides comparable fast response times and frequency response, so that even large presses can get the quick, stable control that they require for tight dynamic control. For presses that do not require such tight tolerances, the P Series still features high-flow for cycles that are not as demanding. The S12 Pro is our recommendation for large injection molding presses with demanding control requirements. These fit interchangeably on NG16 systems and are built on the proven S6 Pro (the most popular Domin valve) pilot stage. They are highly dynamic for valves of their size.

Both the S12 Pro and the P12 Pro have a maximum flow rate of 153 gpm (580 lpm), the largest in the product line. They are particularly well suited for high-flow applications such as large injection molding presses.

Both the S12 Pro and the P12 Pro have the same maximum rated flow of 153 gpm (580 lpm), but the P12 has a lower minimum rated flow (42 gpm / 160 lpm) than the S12 Pro (66 gpm / 250 lpm).

The biggest difference is that the S12 Pro is ideal for presses with tight control windows that need higher bandwidth as they have a higher frequency response (>100 Hz) and response times (<10ms). The P12 Pro is better suited for applications that are a bit more flexible. The P12 Pro has a lower frequency response (>60 Hz) and response times (<12 ms). If you can justify the slight drop in performance, the P12 provides a more cost-effective solution.

In larger presses, energy efficiency can be even more important to consider, due to their continuous power draw. Domin valves have comparably low power consumption without sacrificing performance.
