Servo Valves for Composite Compression Molding

Composite compression molding presses require precise motion control of the plates, clamp force, and switchover between filling and compression for quality assurance and time targets. Domin servo valves are designed to give these presses high-flow capability, fast dynamic response, and stable control for consistent parts.

Composite compression often combines high forces, fast cycles, and temperature sensitive materials. In these applications, the press must bring platens together evenly, maintain parallelism as the machine compresses, and manage switchover without over or under loading the part. Precise clamp force control is necessary in these applications for consistent end products. To learn more about the importance of clamp force in molding, read our article.

Not every compression molding press needs the same level of control. Domin’s S10 Pro and S12 Pro valves are recommended specifically for demanding applications. This can include high flow, high force compression, or applications that deal with high-value, thin, complex, or demanding composite materials. In these applications, switchover timing and platen parallelism are extremely tight. They are ideal for NG10 (CETOP 5) and NG16 (CETOP 7) systems respectively.

For presses with larger cycle times, less tight switchover windows, or broader parallelism tolerances, Domin’s P10 Pro and P12 Pro servo proportional valves provide control in applications that are a bit more forgiving. These are ideal for NG10 (CETOP 5) and NG16 (CETOP 7) systems respectively, due to their standard mounting patterns. Use a Domin S Series servo valve when your compression molding press needs high flow and ultra-precise control to maintain tight switchover timing and platen parallelism. P Series valves should be used when the control demands are a bit more forgiving and cost-effectiveness is a higher priority.

Compression molding is a demanding application in both environment and control requirements. Domin servo valves are ultra-precise and robust, making them the perfect solution for composite compression molding. Specifically, Domin response rates as fast as <3ms and hysteresis as low as <0.2%.
